B2 Visa: An Australian Needs Your Expertise, Wisdom and Advice… (aka help!)

You guys know your stuff. So here goes…

I’ve spent hours reading the forum’s fine pages about B2 visas but things are still a little murky.

Here’s me in dot points…

- Australian citizen
- $70k in the bank
- Own an apartment in Australia
- Have an Australian mortgage
- Strong family ties in Australia
- Freelancer
- US-based girlfriend

The intention is to visit the g/f in US for 6 months.

I’ve just finished up a 7-week trip in US. Prior to that we were living in Thailand together for 6 months.

She’s staying on in America. The plan is for me to return from Australia. Hopefully on a B2.

I have no plans to work in the US and can clearly show I have the funds to support myself while there.

My concern is not being able to show that I have a job to return to because I am a freelancer. (If necessary, I could probably get a letter from my most recent employer stating a job opportunity exists when I return.)

What are my chances/best strategies?

P.S. I've made around 6 trips to the US in the past 6 years as a tourist on the VWP and always returned to Oz. If this counts for anything...

You don't necessarily have to be doing a job. You could be doing the business or freelancing. As long as you show some proof in terms of letters, tax returns etc. , you would be fine.
